    Course Overview

    OSHA Recordkeeping and Reporting for workplace injuries and illnesses is an advanced online safety course for supervisors and managers. This course is based on OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1904 and includes the recent Improve Tracking Final Rule updates to the standard, which are scheduled to take effect January 1, 2017. The primary focus of this OSHA reporting course is the importance of keeping a proper record of injuries and illness to prevent and minimize similar accidents in the future.

    Under the OSHA Recordkeeping Standard, covered employers are required to prepare and maintain records of serious occupational injuries and illnesses using the OSHA 300 Log. This information is important for employers, workers and OSHA in evaluating the safety of a workplace, understanding industry hazards, and implementing worker protections to reduce and eliminate hazards. The record keeping forms provided by OSHA are Forms 300, 300A and 301.

    NOTE: On May 11, 2016, OSHA announced changes to the reporting and recordkeeping standard called the Improve Tracking Final Rule to require certain employers to electronically submit injury and illness data that they are already required to record on their onsite OSHA injury and illness forms. These changes affect establishments with 250 employees or more, or employers with 20-249 employees in certain high-risk industries. These new requirements are effective as of January 1, 2017 for workplaces under Federal OSHA jurisdiction. Also part of the new rule are Anti-Retaliation protections which requires employers to inform employees of their right to report work-related injuries and illnesses free from retaliation. These provisions become effective August 10, 2016, but OSHA has delayed their enforcement until Dec. 1, 2016.
