OSHA Updates Confined Spaces in Construction Standard

OSHA’s new Confined Spaces in Construction Standard (Subpart AA of 29 CFR 1926) took effect August 3, 2015. OSHA has estimated that this rule will prevent over 800 serious injuries and save the lives of 5 construction workers every year.

Confined Spaces in Construction Awareness – 20 Minutes - Only $10.00! This course is intended for construction workers with only limited exposure in work locations where confined spaces exist, but which they are not permitted to enter, attend or otherwise work in those confined spaces.

Confined Spaces in Construction: An Introduction – 1 Hour 15 Minutes - Only $20.00!

This course is intended for employees that may have the opportunity to enter, attend , or act as entry supervisors for work in confined spaces including permit-required confined spaces.

OSHA Updated Standard Details

OSHA has delayed full enforcement of the new standard, which went into effect August 3, until October 2, 2015 to give employers enough time to comply with the new requirements.

During the 60-day temporary enforcement period, employers must indicate to OSHA they are making good faith efforts to comply with the new Confined Spaces in Construction standard by:
  1. Scheduling training for employees as required by the new standard;
  2. Ordering or otherwise arranging to obtain the necessary equipment, including personal protective equipment, and taking alternative measures to educate and protect employees from confined space hazards; and
  3. Making any additional efforts to educate workers about confined space hazards and to protect them from those hazards.
