NFPA 70E (2018) for Qualified Persons in All Industries
Course Overview
NFPA 70E (2018) for Qualified Persons in All Industries is for those personnel seeking employer authorization as a qualified person, or those looking to be retrained, under Article 110.2 (D)(1) of the electrical safety standard from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), titled NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
According to the definition in NFPA 70E, a qualified person is “one who has demonstrated skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and installations, and has received safety training to identify and avoid the hazards involved.” NFPA 70E requires that only a qualified person perform work on or near exposed and energized electrical conductors or circuit parts. A qualified person must be knowledgeable of:
- Safe work procedures and precautionary techniques
- Selection and use of PPE, including insulating and shielding materials, insulated tools, and test equipment
- Emergency practices, such as the ways to release a victim of shock who is in contact with an exposed conductor or circuit part
Note: This course will cover the NFPA 70E safety standards as they relate to being a qualified person. Before beginning any work, those seeking to be qualified persons must undertake training under the direct supervision of an authorized qualified person to demonstrate their ability to safely perform specific duties. Because of the NFPA requirement to demonstrate skills under direct supervision, this online course must be followed with on-the-job training and supervision.
